Assassin's Creed - Jesuitas x Bandeirantes

Os jesuítas faziam parte de uma ordem religiosa católica chamada Companhia de Jesus. Criados com o objetivo de disseminar a fé católica pelo mundo. No Brasil, eles chegaram em 1549 com o objetivo de cristianizar as populações indígenas do território colonial. Incumbidos dessa missão, promoveram a criação das missões, onde organizavam as populações indígenas em torno de um regime que combinava trabalho e religiosidade. Além disso, submetiam os mesmos a uma rotina de trabalho que despertava a cobiça dos bandeirantes, que praticavam a venda de escravos indígenas.
Com isso, a rivalidade entre bandeirantes e jesuítas marcou uma das mais acirradas disputas entre os séculos XVII e XVIII. Vez após outra, ambos os lados recorriam à Coroa Portuguesa para resolver essa rotineira contenda. Por um lado, os colonizadores reclamavam da falta de suporte da própria administração colonial. Por outro, os jesuítas apelavam para a influência da Igreja junto ao Estado para denunciarem as terríveis agressões dos bandeirantes.


The Jesuits were part of a Catholic religious order called the Society of Jesus. Created with the aim of spreading the Catholic faith throughout the world. In Brazil, they arrived in 1549 in order to christianize the indigenous people of the colonial territory. Responsible for this mission, they promoted the establishment of missions, where the indigenous people were organized around a system that combined work and religion. Moreover, subjecting them to a routine of work that aroused the greed of Bandeirantes, who practiced the sale of Indian slaves.
With this, the rivalry between Bandeirantes and Jesuits scored one of the most heated disputes between the 17th and 18th centuries. Time after time, both sides resorted to the Portuguese Crown to resolve this dispute. On the one hand, the settlers complained about the lack of support from their own colonial administration. On the other, the Jesuits appealed to the influence of the Church with the State to denounce the terrible attacks of the Bandeirantes.
